Why GeM rejects seller registrations
GeM's automated verification system cross-checks your documents against PAN, Aadhaar, GST, and bank databases in real time. Any mismatch triggers rejection — often with a vague error message that doesn't identify the exact field.
The most common rejection causes are name mismatches, wrong DSC class, bank account issues, and document format errors. Each rejection adds 7–14 days to your go-live timeline.
PAN / Aadhaar name mismatch — the #1 rejection
GeM compares your PAN name to your Aadhaar name character by character. "Ram Kumar" on PAN and "Ram K." on Aadhaar will fail. Initials, hyphens, and title prefixes (Mr./Mrs.) all cause mismatches.
Fix: correct the name on whichever document is wrong. Aadhaar corrections take 1–7 days at a UIDAI enrolment centre. PAN corrections take 7–15 days online via NSDL/UTIITSL. Once both documents match exactly, resubmit.
DSC-related rejections
Using a Class 2 DSC (discontinued since 2021) will fail — you need a Class 3 token. The name on the DSC must also match your PAN/Aadhaar exactly.
If your DSC expired recently, your registration submission will be rejected even if all other documents are correct. Renew at your certifying authority and re-attempt with the updated token.
Bank account and GST errors
GeM verifies bank account ownership via penny drop. A bank account in your personal name (e.g. "Ravi Sharma") when registering as a firm ("Sharma Traders") will fail. The account must be in the business entity's name.
For GST: if your GSTIN is suspended, cancelled, or the address doesn't match your GeM registration address, expect rejection. Verify your GST status on the GST portal before submitting.
How to resubmit successfully
Before resubmitting: run through GemSetu's free registration readiness wizard at gemsetu.com/get-started. It validates name matching, document format, and MSME/GST status without consuming a GeM submission attempt.
After fixing the underlying document issue, wait for the correction to propagate in government databases (usually 24–48 hours). Submitting immediately after a correction often hits the old (incorrect) record.
